A fatal accident on the A30 motorway in the border region on Thursday afternoon claimed one life and left two others with serious injuries. The incident caused significant disruptions, with the motorway closed in both directions for over two hours.

The collision occurred at 12.50pm in the municipality of Boulange, as confirmed by the Metz-Thionville motorway CRS post. A car travelling the wrong way collided head-on with a van heading toward Metz from the Belgian border. The van’s driver died at the scene, while the driver of the car, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was rushed to Metz Regional Hospital. The car was registered in France, and the van in the Netherlands.

Shortly after the initial collision, a third vehicle was involved in a separate accident at the same location. While it did not collide with the other vehicles, the driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Nancy University Hospital. The exact circumstances of this incident remain under investigation.

The A30 motorway was closed in both directions until around 3pm. Traffic toward Belgium resumed around 4.30pm, but the opposite lane remained closed until 5.30pm to allow authorities to clear the scene and conduct necessary investigations.
