EmploymentFamily support leave to be introduced

RTL Today
The new measure should allow people to look after relatives in need of care.

This new type of leave should benefit individual who have to care for older relatives or disabled people who cannot be accommodated by their usual facilities. As these people depend on the help of others, the government has decided to introduce family support leave.

This special form of leave is, however, tied to certain conditions. The facility which usually houses the person in need of care must be closed down because of the crisis. The person who takes the leave must take care of the other person in person. The individual requesting the leave must also not be on short-time work and must be the only available option to assure care for the other person.

This type leave only lasts until the end of the crisis and ends as soon as the facilities reopen their doors again. The leave can be retroactively taken from 18 March.

Only people who are self-employed or work in the private sector can take this leave. People working in the public sector may be released from work.
