Thanks to an eyewitness’ brave intervention, a thief was forced to flee on Friday afternoon.

According to the police, the incident took place in Rue Philippe II in the centre of Luxembourg City at around 4.15pm.

A man snatched the bag of a passer-by and tried to run away in the direction of the cathedral. An eyewitness then chased the thief. He even managed to catch up with him and hold him back. A brave act that could have paid off, but according to the testimonies gathered by the police, another individual arrived and threatened the witness, who was forced to release the thief.

Arriving on the scene later, the police did not find the brave eyewitness. The police are now asking for help in identifying the man so that they may obtain a statement from him that could help investigators identify the fleeing suspects.

The witness is a young man aged between 16 and 19 years, “potentially of Indian origin”, according to the police. He is less than 165 cm tall and was wearing a black jacket with a furry hood.
The man is asked to contact the police, either by calling (+352) 244 244 40-1000 or by writing an e-mail to Police.LUXEMBOURG@police.etat.lu.
