The EU’s Court of Justice was founded in 1952. Its role is to check whether the actions of European institutions are legal, whether EU member countries are fulfilling the obligations of the treaties, and to interpret European law by request from national courts.
The Court counts 265 members and the institution has 6,000 employees in total. Since its founding, it has issued over 42,000 rulings.
