The news came after Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn stated in an RTL interview that Schneider should make his date of resignation known before Christmas.
Schneider sought to clarify Asselborn's comments, explaining that an internal party meeting had taken place in which it was stipulated that a press conference would be held on Monday.
Schneider said as the oldest member of the Government, the advice of Jean Asselborn was always judicious, but in this instance he appeared to have forgotten to inform the press correctly.
He confirmed the press conference would clarify his intentions for leaving government and specify his resignation date. He declined to comment further after the last parliamentary session of the year on Thursday.
