The greatest part of the envisioned deficit is related to the decrease in activities of the event sector. Gloden noted that winemakers would therefore sit down with the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Romain Schneider in October to discuss possible aids.
Furthermore, the elevated temperatures in recent weeks have taken a toll on parts of the vine grapes, meaning that around 25% will not be harvested due to "sun burns".
The harvest season will begin on 10 September, naturally held under restricted corona measures. The ministries of agriculture and health have already created a plan to organise the logistical aspects of the operations. Every year, between 1,000 and 1,200 workers from abroad come to the Grand Duchy to aid in the harvest.
What would happen if the virus started spreading in a winemaker business? So far, this question remains unanswered and represents a true challenge, according to Gloden.
