Pim Knaff, a member of Esch-sur-Alzette’s municipal executive board (“Schäfferot”), has denied Tageblatt newspaper reports suggesting his imminent resignation. While acknowledging an agreed future leadership transition, the politician of the Democratic Party (DP) clarified he will not step down at year’s end as claimed.
The politician confirmed a prearranged plan for local DP chapter president Daliah Scholl, currently a municipal councillor, to assume his executive board position “during the legislature.” However, he emphasised this transition will not occur at the end of the year.
The revelation marks the first public discussion of this planned mandate split. Notably, Scholl has avoided public commentary on the arrangement.
Knaff’s political standing has faced sustained scrutiny since his 2024 conviction for aggravated tax fraud – a matter for which he continues to reject calls for political accountability. Opposition critics have additionally questioned his oversight of local culture association FrEsch.
When contacted by our colleagues from RTL.lu, Esch Mayor Christian Weis of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) stated he had no knowledge of any pending resignation from his executive board colleague.
