Ernesto Prosperi, the long-time manager of the restaurant Beim Baron in Osweiler, has died at the age of 61 in his native Italy. Prosperi was widely regarded as an iconic figure in Luxembourg, known both as a chef and an entertainer.
The Italian chef died at home on Sunday, 17 May 2026, according to an obituary published in Italy by his wife and family.
The funeral of Ernesto Mario Prosperi will take place on Tuesday at the Santa Maria Maddalena church in Castiglione del Lago, in Italy's Umbria region.
Many knew the long-time manager of Beim Baron not only as a chef but also as a charismatic personality who would entertain guests with songs while serving them. In 2019, Prosperi's restaurant took part in the German television show 'Mein Lokal, Dein Lokal'.
Prosperi also appeared prominently as a TV chef across numerous programmes on RTL Télé over the years.
In 2016, he published his cookbook Le Palais des Palais, featuring 150 Italian recipes, including both classics and his own variations.
Friends, customers, and colleagues remember Prosperi as "a wonderful human, entertainer, and chef", whose heart was in the right place and who could win over both the young and the old with his joie de vivre and enthusiasm.
In 2021, Prosperi had to close his restaurant for health reasons and retire to a quieter life.
