The house on Op der Uet in Wormeldange-Haut was planned for demolition, but neighbours alerted firefighters to a fire.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of the house and firefighters quickly extinguished it.
It is likely that the fire was started by construction workers in the afternoon, who then may have left it to burn out unsupervised. The fire rose into the chimney and spread to wood beams.
There were no injuries. In all, ten firefighters attended the incident.
