Luxembourg CityEmpty hotels and very few tourists over Easter

RTL Today
While the industry was hit hard by lockdown in 2020, many businesses continue to struggle in 2021 due to the strict travel restrictions still in place in many countries.

Neither summer heat, nor winter cold: Spring is usually a popular season for those who like to travel. As such, the Easter holidays used to mark the start of the tourist season. However, that was before the pandemic, which threw a devastating wrench into the travel industry’s schedule.

While Luxembourg City’s terraces have a tendency to be packed since last week, very few of the visitors are tourists, as travel is still limited by the pandemic. However, the situation is better than last year at the same time, explains to the director of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO).

According to Tom Bellion, it is clear that something is happening in Luxembourg. The open terraces in particular are attracting people, even if they are often “only” residents.

Luxembourg hoteliers Carlo Cravat (Grand Hotel Cravat) and Marcel Goeres (Parc Belle-Vue, Parc Plaza, Parc Belair, Parc Beaux-Arts), however, do not share the LCTO director’s optimism. Due to the pandemic, the hotel industry has lost more than 80% of its clientele in the capital.
