The walls of Eisenborn castle in the municipality of Junglinster have stood since the 1770s and are depicted on the historical Ferraris Map, commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria for military reasons.
The castle, which began life as a farm, before becoming a cloisters from 1902 to 1992, belongs to the government. In 2009 it was given national heritage protection status, but fell into disrepair over the next decade.
Recently the Housing Fund, which owns the property, launched the Eisenborn Castle housing project. 14 homes will be built on the site, including a large park which will be open to the public and maintained by local authorities.
