From Sunday to Wednesday, labour market agencies from eight countries with German-speaking regions gathered in northern Luxembourg for an annual conference organised by the National Employment Agency (ADEM).
Representatives from Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland attended the conference to discuss current trends in the labour market as well as efforts to modernise public employment services.
The main focus of the conference was a proposed European Union reform that would change unemployment benefit rules.
Under the draft legislation, unemployment benefits would in future be paid by the country where a person was last employed, rather than the country of residence.
Other key topics also included digitalisation and improving support services for jobseekers.
The conference is held annually, rotating between the eight participating countries.
