A series of accidents late Friday night and into Saturday left two people injured and kept emergency services busy across Luxembourg.
The first incident occurred at around 1.30am on the A1 motorway in the direction of Luxembourg City. According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), a van and a lorry collided on the stretch between the Iergäertchen roundabout and the Howald tunnel. One person was injured in the crash and required medical attention. An ambulance from Findel Airport was despatched to the scene.
Roughly half an hour later, at 2am, authorities were alerted to a separate situation on Boulevard Pierre Werner in Luxembourg City. Reports indicated a person near the access road to the A1 who appeared to be intoxicated and was struggling to change a tyre.
Upon arriving at the location, police officers discovered the individual had already been involved in an accident. The motorist had hit the guardrails, causing the front passenger-side tyre to burst. The impact caused the vehicle to spin before coming to a halt facing the wrong direction on the motorway access road.
Officers quickly observed that the driver was barely able to stand. A breathalyser test confirmed their suspicion of intoxication. The motorist was subsequently issued a temporary driving ban, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported in this incident.
A more serious crash took place later in the morning, at around 7.20am, near Findel Airport. A car crashed on Route de Trèves, prompting a response from an ambulance and the Emergency Medical Assistance Team (SAMU) from Findel Airport. One person was treated at the scene for injuries sustained in the collision.
