A motorist attempted to evade a police checkpoint late Friday night, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended with multiple collisions in Niederkorn.

According to authorities, officers noticed a suspicious vehicle near Côte d’Eich at around 1.30am. When police signalled the driver to stop, the individual sped away, initiating a chase.

The fleeing vehicle ran multiple red lights while racing through Luxembourg City onto the A4 and A13 motorways toward Niederkorn. On Rue Theis, the driver lost control during a turn, crashing into two parked cars and damaging several police vehicles.

Officers, who had exited their patrol cars by that point, narrowly avoided being struck as the suspect drove dangerously toward them. The pursuit ended when the fleeing car collided with another parked vehicle, causing it to overturn and land on its side.

A subsequent inspection revealed the driver had no valid licence and tested positive for drugs. Police also confiscated narcotics found inside the car. Investigators later learned the same driver had avoided another checkpoint the previous night.

After receiving medical clearance, the suspect was arrested on orders from the public prosecutor’s office. They appeared before an examining magistrate on Saturday afternoon.
