Emergency services were called to the N12 near Eschdorf shortly after 10am on Sunday after a racing car left the road and crashed into safety barriers during the first round of the renowned Eschdorf hill climb, part of the European Hill Race 2026 calendar. Two SAMU Air Rescue helicopters and ambulances from Wiltz, Rambrouch, and Nordstad were dispatched to the scene.
According to initial reports, the accident left the driver and a race marshal injured. The latter sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene. The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with less severe injuries. The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) confirmed the gravity of the injuries to RTL.
The exact circumstances of the crash remain unclear. The car involved has been sealed for examination, and an investigation into the causes of the accident is underway.
