
A car caught fire early Tuesday morning in Mersch after an accident that occurred shortly after 1am. According to police reports, the vehicle had collided with a road sign and a lamppost on Rue Erkanfrida before the fire broke out.
The driver, who was not injured, was administered an alcohol test, which returned a positive result. Consequently, the driver was issued a driving ban. Two firefighting teams and an ambulance were despatched to the scene.
Also on Tuesday night, police intervened on the A3 motorway to stop a motorist driving dangerously. The driver was reported to be speeding and zigzagging across lanes.
Upon being stopped, the driver was found to have been drinking and was subsequently given a driving ban.
On Tuesday evening, two vehicles were targeted by burglars. One incident occurred on Rue Sainte-Zithe in Luxembourg City, where a bag was stolen from a parked car.
Another attempted theft was reported near Place Guillaume II, where an individual tried to break into a car. A police patrol apprehended the suspect inside the vehicle. The suspect, who was uncooperative, was immobilised by officers and taken to the police station.
The police had to deal with several incidents involving inebriated individuals on Tuesday evening. Before 7pm, an individual was arrested in the Gare neighbourhood of the capital. This person was harassing passers-by and spitting on the ground. A police patrol despatched to the scene decided to detain them overnight.
Another individual was arrested in Ettelbruck for defacing public property, specifically tearing down a road sign. Their actions were documented in an official report. After causing further disturbances, they were also held in custody overnight.
