The board of directors of the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has appointed Dr Thomas Dentzer as its new director, the LNS confirmed in a statement.
Dentzer studied biology in Karlsruhe and Freiburg before completing a doctorate in virology at Rockefeller University in New York. He has built an extensive career in Luxembourg, having notably worked at the National Health Institute, Luxinnovation and the Directorate of Health, among other positions. During the pandemic, he was responsible for Luxembourg's national screening strategy.
He joined the LNS in 2023 as operations director and has been serving as interim head of the laboratory during the past months, following the departure of Dr Stéphane Gidenne, who stepped down as director in February after less than a year in the post. Dentzer will formally take up the directorship on 15 May.
The appointment comes as the LNS looks to turn the page on a turbulent period marked by lengthy delays, internal disputes and a series of high-profile resignations.
