Dr Laurent Plawny, a respected physician and key figure in raising awareness about blood cancer through the "Plooschter" project, has died at 51, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Luxembourg and beyond.

Dr Laurent Plawny, a respected haematologist-oncologist specialising in blood cancers, has died at the age of 51.

Born in France and a long-time resident of Belgium, Dr Plawny had dedicated over 17 years of his career to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) in Luxembourg City. In addition to his work at the CHL, Dr Plawny was an active member of the European Federation of Haematologists. He also played a pivotal role in founding the “Plooschter” (bandage) project alongside former runner Yannik Lieners.

This initiative focuses on raising awareness about blood cancer and encouraging the public to become stem cell donors through educational campaigns and community outreach efforts.

Dr Plawny is survived by his wife and two children.
