Weather permitting, tonight should be the best time of the year to see shooting stars. In some places, the public might even be able to admire a swarm of dust from an old comet (109P/Swift-Tuttle) that the Earth passes through every year in the first half of August.

Look up!

The spectacle of cometary debris hitting the atmosphere should be visible everywhere across the globe, but most spectacularly in the northern hemisphere.

The peak of activity will be reached on Saturday night, with one shooting star per minute.
