For diesel drivers, the week got off to a bad start as fuel costs spiked overnight by a notable 6.6 cents, pushing the price of diesel to €1.704 per litre.

This increase marks the first time diesel prices have crossed the €1.70 threshold since January, briefly surpassing the cost of petrol, which currently remains steady at €1.644 per litre.

The sudden surge translates to an overnight cost increase of €3.30 for a full 50-litre tank, now priced at €85.20.

The escalation in diesel prices is attributed to the recent surge in global oil prices, with the cost of a barrel of oil increasing from $72 to $90 over a span of three months.

Furthermore, this upward trend in fuel prices extends to heating oil:

  • 10 ppm heating oil increases to €1.149 per litre, marking a 7-cent rise.
  • 50 ppm heating oil rises to €1.137 per litre, reflecting a 6.6-cent increase.
