EnergyDemand for heat pumps and photovoltaic generators high, explains Marc Thein

RTL Today
On Tuesday morning, the president of the Technical Engineering Federation (FGT) joined our colleagues on RTL Radio to discuss the implications of the unfolding energy crisis.

The FGT, which represents businesses in the sectors of electric technology, sanitary facilities, and information technology, is currently facing an elevated level of demands.

President Thein explained that in light of the energy crisis, many people want to install a heat pump or photovoltaic generator before the upcoming winter. He thus pleaded for patience as businesses are currently being “overrun” with requests.

It should also be noted that many of the smaller companies have not yet adopted these new technologies and still rely on traditional heating systems, elaborated Thein. However, as of 2023, new buildings will no longer be permitted to have these installations, which will pose an additional challenge for small businesses.

The FGT president also spoke about the difficulties of replacing traditional heating systems with the newer heat pumps, which may not work in every building. He therefore advised people to seek council before taking a decision in this matter.

There is also a high demand for photovoltaic generators, which produce electricity. However, location and orientation of a building play an important role in their efficiency, which is why not every house is suited for an installation.

President Thein concluded by saying that although the greatest energy-saving potential is in the hands of the industrial sector, private citizens can still contribute with small things, such as simply keeping the thermostat one degree below their preferred temperature.
