Inflation and high energy prices unsurprisingly also have an impact on dairy prices.

For example, the price paid to farmers by dairy factories has risen to 49 cents per kilo and will continue to rise. The price has increased from 36 cents per kilo in mid-2021.

Since dairy factories have to pay producers more, dairy prices will naturally continue to rise.

For producers, one of the reasons for this increase is the higher price of fertilisers and feed, while the dairy factories have to bear the costs packaging.

An interesting side note in this is that half of the national cow’s milk production is exported as fresh milk.

These details were provided by Minister of Agriculture Claude Haagen and Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot in response to a parliamentary question by MPs Gusty Graas and Gilles Baum from the Democratic Party (DP).
