The Federation of Sport Fishermen saved several thousand small fish, but this is merely a small percentage of the life lost.

During floods, the fry (small fish) are often among the most affected. They try to find shelter and cannot follow the current.

The municipality of Rosport/Mompach was hit hard by the floods. A maize field was destroyed and many animals that lived in the Sûre were found dead. The smell of fuel oil is still very present in the air.

The Federation of Sport Fishermen thinks that more than half of the fish in the Sûre have died. According to the Federation's estimates, millions of fish have perished overall in the bad weather.

"I am convinced that millions of fish have died here", says Claude Strotz, the federation's secretary. "The next years will show us what impact that [loss of live] will have on fish and food chains."
