On Wednesday morning, a reader from Esch-sur-Alzette reported a significant water leak on Avenue de la Gare to RTL, which local authorities have since confirmed.
Photos and videos from the scene show a geyser of water erupting from the ground at a construction site, reaching as high as the second floor of a nearby building. According to initial reports from the Esch-sur-Alzette town hall press service, the incident occurred after a contractor accidentally struck and damaged a water pipe during excavation work.
Municipal technical teams were despatched to the site Wednesday morning to address the leak. The rupture occurred at around 11am, and repairs were completed by approximately 12.30pm.
The RTL eyewitness who first reported the incident described the pipe bursting with a “loud bang”, leaving him “completely soaked.” The town hall clarified that no leaks were detected in the system, and while a few nearby homes may have been affected, the overall water supply remained uninterrupted.
Residents in the vicinity were promptly notified of the situation.
