The election of the ombudsman requires a two-thirds majority in the Chamber by anonymous vote.
The post of ombudsman was created in 2004 to address complaints against the operation of the state, detention facilities, public bodies, and local administration. Each elected official serves a period of eight years. So far, there have been three people elected; namely, Marc Fischbach, Lydie Err, and Claudia Monti. Claudine Konsbruck will be the fourth person to hold the position.
