Claude Meisch, Luxembourg’s new Minister of Housing, on Tuesday presented two new projects to the Chamber’s respective commission, which are bound to be put up for vote next week. The ‘Elmen II’ project in Olm and the ‘Itzegerknupp’ project in Bonnevoie were both still launched by former Minister Henri Kox.
The undertaking in Olm, which is hoped to be completed by 2033, will result in a total of 154 new accommodations, including 51 houses and 103 apartments across ten buildings. 55 of those accommodations are to be rented out. To keep up with population growth, Olm will also received a new school, daycare, supermarket, as well as a new bus route connecting the town to the City of Luxembourg.
At present, 52 accommodations in the ‘Elmen I’ district have yet to be sold and might therefore be rented out in the future. Eligibility criteria might be revised.
In Bonnevoie, a total of 558 affordable accommodations are to be built on top of 228 ones funded by private developers. The ‘Itzegerknupp’ district will include a total of 32 apartment buildings, which are expected to be concluded between 2028 and 2035. Houses are to be sold while the majority of apartments will be rented out. A new school, gymnasium, and football pitch are also planned in the area to keep up with local population growth.
