Any individual who would like to fulfill a gift wish removes the ornament and does not buy the actual present but simply provides the funds for the purchase.
While each child and young person receives a gift up to €30, the value on the ornaments ranges from €5 enabling donors of all budgets to make a difference.
One hundred percent of funds raised go directly and solely to the purchase of gifts. Volunteers at the AWCL buy the gifts and deliver them in time for St Nicholas Day and later for Christmas Day.
Maison Paula Bové, one of the foyers that benefits from the programme, expressed its gratitude for the generous support: “AWCL’s assistance is truly invaluable, and it is always a great experience to see the children’s eyes light up when they receive their gifts!”
Last year, the Gifts for Kids initiative delivered 1,214 gifts to over 80 foyers and the goal for 2023 is to raise over €36,000.
In helping with the tremendous cause each year, the students at St George’s International School make beautiful handmade cards to accompany the gifts.
Presenting original and thoughtfully created cards from the children of the community to the children in the foyers is especially poignant, according to organisers.
You do not have to be an employee of a participating organisation to make a donation by visiting Gifts for Kids, or follow them on Instagram @awclux to find out how you can help by donating through bank transfer or Payconiq.
The main fundraising drive goes from the date the Christmas Markets open until 6 January, but the organisation accepts donations year-round.
