Health Minister Martine Deprez provided detailed data on the effects of this year’s flu season in an answer to a parliamentary question by MP Mars di Bartolomeo of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), stating that children were disproportionately affected and more likely than adults to be hospitalised by flu-like-viruses.

Between December and January, over 7.000 patients were treated in the Paediatric Clinic ‘Kannerklinik’, with 90% of hospital beds occupied at the beginning of February.

Among other information released, Deprez further detailed the number of vaccinations against the flu to the general population of Luxembourg, with 91.000 vaccine doses delivered to pharmacies this past winter and 12.800 vaccinations against Covid-19 provided between September and February.

Alongside 880 hospitalised patients affected by the flu, 550 patients were hospitalised due to a Covid-19 infection.
