
Even though most items are already labelled with either national and international descriptions, the Chamber argues that there is not enough coherence.
“Consumers are often overloaded with information and struggle to make a clear choice”, notes a statement on the Chamber’s website. The objective is to “protect the good faith of consumers and to provide concrete labelling and promotional tools to producers.”
The Chamber website further states, in French: “In order to obtain quality approval for an agricultural product, producer groups must respect mandatory criteria in the three pillars of “Quality - Flavour”, “Regional - Solidarity”, and “Environment - Animal welfare”, with at least two criteria per pillar.
Participation in the new system will not be mandatory. The bill is set to be discussed at half past two in the afternoon.
