On Thursday morning, MPs unanimously voted in favour of financing the expansion of the capital's main rail station, to the tune of around €138 million by 2031.

The €138 million expansion should enable the capital’s station to handle increased train traffic in the future. An additional line will be built linking the station with Hollerich, while the double track towards Kleinbettingen will be extended, and the line towards Bettembourg will be split.

Platform 1 will be lengthened, and an additional platform is to be built.

Transport minister Yuriko Backes said it was an important investment to improve capacity and retain punctuality, as well as investing in sustainable development.
