On Thursday, the Chamber of Deputies approved the financing bill for the construction of a new international school in Mondorf-les-Bains.
The project, with a budget of €210.6 million, is designed to address population growth in the southeast of the Grand Duchy and to sustainably expand the educational offering in the region.
The new campus, to be located at the Um Gréimelter site, will include a primary school, a secondary school offering both the European and Luxembourgish curricula, as well as facilities for vocational education.
In total, the complex will accommodate up to 1,690 students across 78 classrooms.
An international school has operated in Mondorf-les-Bains since 2018, but classes have so far taken place in temporary facilities.
The planned campus aims to provide a permanent home for the school community.
The future campus will also feature a boarding house with 43 rooms, primarily intended for students.
Some spaces may also be made available to athletes attending training camps at nearby sports facilities.
Minister for Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes highlighted the importance of investing in infrastructure today to meet the needs of future generations.
Special emphasis will be placed on sustainability: the buildings will be constructed to the highest energy efficiency standards (A-A-A rating), fitted with photovoltaic panels, and feature measures to promote water conservation, biodiversity, and creating attractive outdoor spaces.
