"No radioactivity"Cattenom oil spillage contaminates Moselle river

RTL Today
A fire protection manoeuvre went wrong at the Cattenom power plant over the border on 19 February, causing 20 litres of oil-laden water to flow into the Moselle river.

According to an official statement, a valve was left open, which caused the hydrocarbon collection system to overflow and leak around twenty litres of oil-laden water. This water was then discharged into the Moselle through the plant’s rainwater circuit.
EDF have carried out sample analysis which confirmed the absence of radioactivity in the substance which was discharged into the river. A team will continue to monitor the Moselle, according to the statement.

This event was declared by the Cattenom nuclear power plant to the Nuclear Safety Authority on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.
