A suspect on the run from police suffered serious injuries in a failed escape attempt on Wednesday evening.
Police were initially called to the area following reports of an assault, but the perpetrator was nowhere to be found. After mounting a search, officers responding to reports of a burglary on Rue Bender identified the suspect as one and the same. The man had broken into a third-floor apartment and was attempting to escape through a window when officers caught up with him.
Undeterred by the officers’ attempts to talk him down, the man continued with his escape, falling three storeys down to the pavement. He was treated at the scene for his injuries before being taken to hospital with a police escort. The public prosecutor was informed of the incident, as was the police inspectorate.
The victim of the assault was also taken to hospital for treatment, where it was discovered they had traces of a stimulant in their bloodstream.
An elderly woman was attacked and mugged in her own garden at around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening, after a stranger entered the garden and engaged her in conversation while gardening. The man suddenly attacked her from behind, ripping a necklace from her throat and leaving the woman with bruises. He then fled on a bicycle in the direction of Remich town centre.
Police describe the suspect as follows:
Male, aged 20-25, around 1.80 metres tall and slim, wearing dark trousers and a white t-shirt. His appearance was generally unkempt, with stubble and several teeth missing. The man spoke unaccented French and was carrying a notepad.
