Emergency services confirmed to RTL that a tractor in a field near Mertert caught fire at around 3pm on Saturday. Witnesses sent photos to the RTL newsroom showing thick black smoke rising from the scene.
According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), the flames also spread to a nearby barn. Authorities have issued a yellow awareness alert, advising people to avoid the area of Mertert, Manternach, and Grevenmacher, and to keep roads clear for emergency service vehicles.
