The emails claim to be sent on behalf of the Grand Ducal police and Guichet.lu, and usually demand money from the recipient due to an alleged traffic offence.
Police have warned that the emails are fake and remind the public that sending emails - particularly for fines - is not part of police procedures.
Recipients should simply ignore and delete such e-mails. Anyone who has fallen victim to the scam should immediately file a report with their local police station.
The police are also calling on the public to ensure elderly friends and relatives are aware of the scam.
