Aligned with new environmental standards in Belgium, the sulphur content in heating oil has been reduced to 10 ppm (or 0.001%). Consequently, only 10 ppm heating oil will be available for purchase.
This shift also affects Luxembourg, as a significant portion of its fuel oil imports originate from Belgium. The Ministry of the Economy confirms in a press release that “10 ppm heating oil will replace 50 ppm heating oil in Luxembourg.”
As a result, starting Tuesday, 2 April, 50 ppm fuel oil prices will no longer be listed among petroleum product prices in Luxembourg. Presently, the price difference between 50 ppm fuel oil (€1.009/l) and 10 ppm fuel oil (€1.018/l) stands at approximately one cent per litre.
The Ministry of the Economy aims to reassure consumers, emphasising that “10 ppm heating oil is equivalent to 50 ppm heating oil and offers several advantages, including a reduced environmental impact.”
