Divisional commissioner Michäel Collini, originally from Luxembourg, introduced the lessons for his officers on a voluntary basis.
The first class will be made up of around twenty officers from the Arlon-Attert-Habay-Martelange region. They will learn Luxembourgish for one hour per week over a period of eight months, starting this November.
"My officers' territory covers more than 30 kilometres of the border with Luxembourg. It makes sense that they should learn the language, as it will facilitate contact between the forces of order and residents," argued Collini.
