A 35-year-old man was arrested after punching an 8-or-9-month-old baby on the head in public on 5 February this year. The infant’s parents had been walking on Avenue Emile Reuter at 10.30pm, with the mother carrying the baby, when the shocking attack took place. The father took off in pursuit of the attacker, but was dissuaded from further action when the suspect revealed he had a knife.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the perpetrator is still being held in custody.
The baby’s current condition is unknown, but it was confirmed that the child was discharged from hospital the afternoon after the attack.
