The trial of Aldo I., one of Europe’s most wanted criminals since February 2021, will start in Luxembourg City on Tuesday afternoon.

The 33-year-old was arrested in the centre of Brussels at the end of 2021 and stands accused of attempted homicide.

The case dates back to November 2020 when the defendant is believed to have shot a man in Remich and severely injured his leg in the process.

According to information from newspaper Wort, the accused visited a bar in Remich with several women on the evening in question. A fight between him and another guest is said to have occurred and eventually culminated in the use of a firearm at around 11pm.

Investigators asserted that Aldo I. had later fled to his home country Albania, where he is believed to have been implicated in another shooting incident in Tirana in July 2021. The Luxembourg police eventually produced decisive evidence that allowed authorities to arrest the fugitive. He was caught in Brussels where he is suspected to have been involved in cocaine trade.

A woman also faces trial in relation to the Remich shooting as her DNA was found on one of the cartridges. She is believed to have supplied the weapon and is therefore also accused of attempted homicide.
