Meisch's plan is expected to receive the green light from the government council on Friday. The Ministry is gunning to keep things as normal as possible, in spite of coronavirus measures.
Over recent weeks Meisch has held discussions with representatives from the education sector, as well as the Ministry of Health.
According to RTL information, classes are expected to take place as usual, including physical education. As was the case in the summer term, pupils are expected to wear face coverings on school transport and on their way to classrooms.
Each school will benefit from a certain autonomy to adapt the rules as they see fit, meaning school directors will be able to implement further measures than those prescribed by the Ministry if they feel it is necessary.
School canteens are expected to reopen under enhanced hygiene measures, with a maximum of ten pupils allowed to sit at each table.
Video report in Luxembourgish:
Should a case of infection be detected within a school, a three-step plan will be implemented, starting with the isolation of the affected pupil.
If necessary, the whole class will be placed in isolation, and in worst-case scenarios, the entire school. According to sources, this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis per school.
Another idea which has been tabled by the Ministry is the installation of a mobile test centre at schools with multiple cases of the virus.
Further details will be confirmed following the government council on Friday. The relevant Chamber committee will also meet with the Minister of Education on Monday morning.
