One of the underage attackers was later arrested, say police.
At around 7.20pm, one of the young men approached the victim near the park playground on Avenue Emile Reuter, asking to borrow a mobile phone to make a call. When the victim refused, the youth was joined by other attackers, stealing the man’s mobile and wallet. One of the perpetrators used an airsoft gun to intimate and threaten the victim.
After the attack, the group dispersed in different directions. Police later caught one of the attackers in the Gare district and took him into custody. He was found in possession of the airsoft gun with 36 cartridges as well as a knife, nunchucks and a gun case.
The public prosecutor ordered the youth’s details be registered. A complaint was filed and the weapons confiscated, pending an investigation.
