Potential event cancellationsAnnual Octave pilgrimage could turn digital

RTL Today
The restrictive precautionary measures taken to combat the spread of the coronavirus could jeopardise more major traditional Luxembourg events, following the cancellation of the Emaischen.

The annual Octave pilgrimage in honour of Our Lady of Luxembourg, which attracts thousands of pilgrims to the cathedral each year, usually takes place in the first two weeks of May. This year, however, the most important religious holiday in the Grand Duchy is facing difficulties given the current restrictions.

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, who is currently in self-quarantine, told the LuxemburgerWort that no decision has yet been made. But protecting lives is the priority, so the Octave may be organised digitally this year - although the cardinal underlined this was a plan B at present.

The Agricultural Fair is traditionally held over the first weekend of July in Ettelbruck. The organisers are continuing, but taking current guidelines into account, and have not ruled out cancellation. The different organisations that participate in the Agricultural Fair will be informed as things develop.
