The mission of the association is to create a strong link between university studies and professional life, supporting students as they take their first steps into the job market.
Founded in the early 1980s, ANESEC now counts more than 500 members from across Europe, the United States, and even Hong Kong. At this year’s Student Fair, the association informed secondary school pupils about study options and career paths in economics and finance.
Co-president Anne Diederich explained that students often ask where they can work or find internships during the summer, noting that opportunities for student jobs in Luxembourg remain limited, which represents a challenge the association is working to address by helping to create new possibilities for students and pupils alike.
Most ANESEC members are still students themselves, and the association serves as a platform to exchange experiences, identify needs, and build networks. Co-president Kevin Freitas emphasised that their main goal is to connect students with companies through events where they can meet recruiters, make direct contact, and gain first-hand experience of the professional world. He added that, since many students in economics go through numerous internships and interviews, ANESEC also helps them practise online interviews and prepare for recruitment processes as effectively as possible.
Throughout the year, the association organises several major events, such as the Career Opportunity Day and the Business Days. The latter will take place online from 10 to 12 December.
According to Diederich, this event gives members the chance to hold 15-minute one-on-one interviews with partner companies. Importantly, she noted that registration opens on 13 November, adding that participants can connect with organisations from a wide range of sectors, from banking and consulting to public institutions, to learn more about their work or even apply directly for internships and student jobs.
Looking ahead, ANESEC plans to further strengthen its presence and expand opportunities for students to engage with employers. The association also aims to integrate themes such as sustainability and digital skills into its activities, helping students adapt to the changing world of work.
In spring, ANESEC will once again take part in the Career Opportunity Day, facilitating individual meetings between students and companies exploring internships, student jobs, and career prospects while encouraging early professional networking.
