The border control facility on the A64 near the "Biewertalbrücke" was dismantled overnight from Friday to Saturday.

The road was closed on Friday evening and reopened at 6am on Saturday once the works were completed. The lane narrowing installed during the stationary border checks has since been removed.

The control point on the border between Germany and the Grand Duchy had already been out of operation for three weeks after the German Federal Police switched to flexible checks. Vehicles are now only pulled from traffic on suspicion.

The border checks had also come under legal scrutiny. The Koblenz Administrative Court ruled in June 2025 that a previous extension was unlawful, citing insufficient justification from the federal government.

With the removal of the final signs and infrastructure, the A64 has returned to normal traffic conditions, without the narrowings that had regularly caused congestion and affected commuters.
