A Belgian national led German police on a dangerous chase from the BAB60 motorway into Prüm on Monday night after failing to stop, culminating in an arrest for severe drink driving and assault.
On Monday evening, a 42-year-old Belgian national driving a car with a Luxembourgish number plate failed to stop for German police on the BAB60 motorway.
Officers had signalled for the Audi, which was coming from Belgium, to pull over for a check at around 8.30pm. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated toward Prüm. The vehicle was observed swerving erratically and struggling to maintain its lane.
Following a short pursuit, the motorist was apprehended. A breathalyser test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.6 per mille. The individual was uncooperative throughout the check and reportedly assaulted an officer in an attempt to push them to the ground, which was prevented. The driver was subsequently taken to the police station in Prüm for further processing.
