Police announced on Tuesday that the driver who was seriously injured in a crash on the A3 motorway over the weekend has succumbed to his injuries.
A 39-year-old motorist died from injuries sustained in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the A3 motorway last weekend, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near the Dudelange exit in the direction of Thionville at around 4am on Saturday, 22 November. According to police, the man's car crashed head-on into the rear of a lorry, becoming wedged under the trailer.
Emergency crews from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) worked to cut the driver free from the wreckage. He received emergency medical care at the scene before being transported to a hospital in serious, life-threatening condition. The Luxembourg Police announced that he succumbed to his injuries during the night of 25 November.
The scene involved a significant emergency response, including police, the CGDIS, the Emergency Medical Assistance Team (SAMU), and the National Road Authority. The forensic police unit was also in attendance to determine the exact circumstances of the collision. An investigation remains underway.
Following the accident, the A3 motorway near the Croix de Bettembourg exit towards France was closed to traffic and did not reopen until early Sunday afternoon.
