Under grey skies and steady rainfall, the people of Schlindermanderscheid and neighbouring villages came together on All Saints’ Day to remember those they’ve lost and reflect on a shared message of hope.

Schlindermanderscheid, in the municipality of Bourscheid, and which was made famous across the country through Fausti’s song, has around 130 inhabitants. A little over 20 people attended the All Saints’ Day mass this year, while an even larger crowd gathered later at the village cemetery.

"The message of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day is very simple: we are not alone," said Romain Richer, a priest serving in the Ettelbruck parish since 2019. "We are afraid of death. We mourn our loved ones. We are fearful of everything happening in the world," the priest added.

At 9.45am, the graves in Michelau were blessed, and many people came to pay their respects. A similar scene unfolded an hour later in Lipperscheid. Despite heavy rain showers, nearly every grave was visited by family members.

"Through God, we are given hope," Father Romain Richer shared in an interview with RTL. "It is not death or illness that has the final word. We are granted eternal life," he said.
