According to the National Roads Administration, the A3 motorway between the Gasperich interchange and the Bettembourg interchange will be completely closed in both directions from Friday 24 October 2025 at 8pm until Monday 27 October 2025 at 4am.
This closure is part of the ongoing A3 expansion project and is being carried out over the weekend to minimise disruption to weekday traffic, according to the press release.
The A3 will be closed in both directions, towards Luxembourg City and Metz, between the Croix de Gasperich and the Croix de Bettembourg. Access from the Livange interchange and from the Gluck roundabout to the motorway will also be closed. In addition, the Aire de Berchem service area will be inaccessible from Friday 24 October at 6.30pm until Monday 27 October at 4am.
Diversion routes
According to the press release, drivers travelling from the A13 or A3 towards Luxembourg will be diverted via Esch-sur-Alzette, joining the A4, then continuing through the Cessange interchange and onto the A6 towards Gasperich.
Those coming from the A1 or A6 in the direction of Metz will be rerouted via the A6 towards Belgium, then through the Cessange interchange to the A4 towards Esch-sur-Alzette, continuing on the A13 towards Schengen and rejoining the network at the Bettembourg interchange.
From Livange (N31), traffic towards Luxembourg or Metz will follow a diversion via the N31, CR159, CR132 and N13, reconnecting with the A13 either at Burange towards Esch-sur-Alzette or towards Schengen, depending on the destination.
Motorists leaving from the Gluck roundabout or CR231 will be redirected via the N4A and N4 towards the Leudelange-Nord interchange to access the motorway network.
Traffic disruption expected
Preparatory works for the closure will begin several hours in advance, and drivers should expect significant traffic disruptions from Friday afternoon.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, follow the indicated diversion routes, and consult real-time information and detailed maps available on the CITA website.
