The investigation launched by judicial authorities into possible controversial sexual acts within a high school theatre group in Esch-sur-Alzette has been closed.

Luxembourg's courts have decided to close the Namasté case, which opened an investigation into alleged sexual misconductin the high school theatre group named Namasté of the Hubert Clément high school in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The public prosecutor's office had been alerted after "serious incidents of a sexual nature" that could "constitute criminal offences." A preliminary investigation was launched, during which several adults and teenagers were questioned. The group's activities were suspended, the Ministry of Education confirmed in January.

At the time, "several adults and minors (teachers, former students and students) were interviewed as part of the investigators' work." The investigation concluded that "certain behaviours may have appeared questionable from a deontological or ethical point of view" but did not amount to criminal offences, in particular, not to "sexual abuse".

"Consequently, the criminal aspect of the case is now closed, and Luxembourg's public prosecutor's office has decided to dismiss the case," the judicial administration announced on Monday morning.

However, the court noted that this decision does not preclude possible "disciplinary, administrative or civil proceedings".
