Police intervened twice overnight after two intoxicated motorists were found parked on the hard shoulder, one on the A13 near Schifflange and another on the A6 between Bridel and Mamer.
Shortly before midnight on Friday, police received a report of a vehicle on the A13 near Schifflange that was driving very slowly and weaving. Before the Kayl exit, officers located the car, which was parked on the hard shoulder. A strong smell of alcohol was detected from the driver, and the test confirmed this. The man was not allowed to continue driving, and his licence was provisionally confiscated.
Around 3am on Saturday, another car was found parked on the hard shoulder of the A6 between Bridel and Mamer. The driver had made himself comfortable and was asleep when the officers arrived. When they tried to wake him up, he was startled and simply drove off. After a short chase, the car was stopped. Here too, the alcohol test came back positive, and the licence was provisionally withdrawn.
Police also reported several burglaries. One took place in Mersch, where the perpetrators apparently broke a window to enter a house. They ransacked the property and stole jewellery. A very similar incident with almost the same outcome occurred in Oberfeulen.
In Bridel, the perpetrators entered an apartment through the balcony, while in Schwebsange, a door was forced open. Investigations have been launched in all cases.
